With the close of winter, comes the shedding of winter coats and the trading in of bulky layers, for shorts and flip-flops. With more skin showing in these upcoming warmer months, many of us are also looking for a safe alternative to tanning beds when it comes to adding some color back to our bodies.

So, you’re headed into your local tanning salon for your first airbrush tan and you must have so many questions.

Airbrush tanning is a wonderful way to ensure that you get a beautiful summer glow year-round. You get all of the benefits of laying out in the sun without the risk of UV damage to your skin. What more could you want?! But, if this is a part of your regular beauty routine, you know that it can be costly to maintain perfectly bronzed skin on a regular basis.

The perfect sun-kissed glow does not need to be the result of hours lying in the sun. It’s 2021, we all know what damage the sun can cause our skin. People fond of tanning beds or laying outside to get the perfect natural colored skin can now do so without the health risks associated with UV exposure, such as eye damage and skin diseases.

Picking the perfect level for your skin tone or occasion can be tricky, and we’ll always help you narrow it down to what will work best for you when you come in for your appointment But if you’re looking for the 411 on our levels before you come in – I’ve got you.

Growing up, I LOVED a tanning bed. Everyone did. We literally had one IN. OUR. HOUSE. I kid you not. And you bet I fried myself year round for years before I thought.. “Hm, maybe I should listen to all those people who tell me how terrible this is for my skin.”

Tanning beds might get you nice and tan, but they definitely don’t give you that tan without giving you a few things you DON’T want along with it.. Like accelerating the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots, loss of firmness of the skin, and overall premature aging. NO thank you. Who wants that?!?

We always make sure that our clients know to wear loose-fitting dark clothes after their appointment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to wear sweats all day! I have my go- to Air-Tan outfit; oversized sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and sandals- but there are also other options. Got dinner plans after your appointment? Show off your new glow by wearing a maxi dress. Maxi dresses are the best because they look great and most have a loose fit, which is perfect for your Air-Tan. We already recommend sandals after your appointment, so throw on a pair of sandals to look and feel great after dinner.

The weather is changing, spring has sprung – You are ready to trade in your winter wear, but your legs be lookin’ like the inside of a hot dog bun. I feel you girl. This weekend, the sun was out and I was ready to officially throw winter behind me. I shuffled through my closet and came across one of my favorite sun dresses that I have been waiting AGES to wear again, I just had to put it on.

Have you ever wondered if you could layer self-tanner over your spray tan to try darkening or extending your tan? We really don’t recommend doing this. Not all tanners are created equal and layering one type of solution over another can be a recipe for disaster.

One of the most commonly asked questions from mama’s-to-be is if getting an Air-Tan is safe or not. While we always want you to consult with your doctor first, we have tanned many pregnant women at Air-Tan – myself included. My pregnancy was considered a high-risk pregnancy, so when I first found out that I was pregnant, I had to meet with a high-risk doctor. One of the many questions that I had for him was could an airbrush tan cause harm to my unborn child. He assured me that as long as I was not drinking the solution, (YUCK!) it was safe. Again, in no way are we claiming to be medical experts and each pregnancy is unique, so be sure to consult with your physician.
